How to spot a fake online profile

95% of the time fake profiles are for female members so this article will only focus on female traits. I will also try to cover some of the actual cons you should look out for.

The fake female is most likely to be a man in Africa. Nigeria and Ghana are two countries that are world leading in cyber crime. They often use Blackberry phones so their IP address range is part of the Blackberry network. They have teams of men that join any type of free social networking site and use it to contact its members. In the past they will have used email, but social networks will generate a much better response rate. They write scripts (hacks) to try and automate message sending. They don’t have the time to contact members 1 by 1. They want to contact 1000s at a time. The next stage is they want to get you out of the social network and into email or a chat system. Most likely it will be Yahoo as it’s easier to hack Yahoo emails than Google Mail.

The men then wait for incoming emails or incoming chats and then the scam will begin. But before I look at the scams let’s go back to how they get you out of the social networks.

Contact details in the profile

This is the most common method as they hope you will send them an email without any effort on their behalf. If you see chat or email contact details in a profile then hit the report button. No exceptions! Saucydates.com is 100% free so there is no reason to use email and give away your personal information.

Contact details in the first message

If the first message you get after the canned messages are lifted includes contact details then you should be on your guard. Once again, the site is free so very few females are going to part with their private email address in the first few minutes of knowing you, no matter how hot you think you are.

I’m too busy to check my messages

If you get a message asking you to email directly with a reason for being too busy to get on the site then report them. It takes no more effort to use Saucydates then it does to login into Gmail or Yahoo Mail.

Email me and I will send some pictures

If you are asked to email to get some pictures then also take care. If you have been swapping a lot of messages then this is okay but if it’s the first message you get then report them.

In general if the female member is trying to get you to email or chat out side of Saucydates.com then they are likely to be a MAN! If you doubt any of this advice so far then please test it. Make contact out of the site at then leave a comment about what happened next.

The actual scams

There are a couple of main scams that these men try and pull off and they will all involve you sending money.

I have 1 million pounds and I need your help

I’m not going to waste a lot of time on this one. If someone says they have a lot of money and they need your help then tell them to “F##K OFF”. I know if I had a few million then I would hire a finance expert to help me out, not someone I met online.

The honey trap girl

This type of scam is the most likely from a dating site. The man will pretend to be a woman interested in meeting you. They may swap 100s of messages with you but there will be some reason why they cannot meet you. The most likely is they are in another country (usually Africa) and they will need some money for a visa and plane ticket. They will extract a small amount of money at first and then come up with more reasons why they need more money. But they will never visit you as they are a man, so please don’t forget that.

If any member of Saucydates.com asks you for money then firstly, don’t send them any and secondly, report them. If we all work together and report these people then the Saucy Dates Trust system will delete them automatically. Over time they will give up and move to another site. When you report one of these scammers feel free to send them a message and tell them they have just been reported.

Be on your guard and hopefully you found this article helpful, it’s valid for any online dating site you use, even paid ones, as they will use stolen credits cards to sign up. Please leave a comment and share you own views and experiences.

15 Thoughts on “How to spot a fake online profile

  1. This happens to me all the time. Generally they say they are of mixed blood that is a white father and a black mother. Their father has died and they are living with their mom in Ghana. They then request money because they need food or their mother is ill. Also they maybe on some kind of course and need funds to pay for it. Next they may want money for a Visa and plane ticket to come to your country. Never I repeat never send money and in time they will give up. Don’t believe all their hard up stories and if they send you pictures they are probably or some sexy model they have stolen from the Internet. Be aware and as I said NEVER send money.

    • I agree, i got a email once from “a woman” saying email her direcet. I got one or two pictures and a sob storey of how her father died and her mother is ill and wants to come to my country because she loves it. I was asked which is the nearest airport to me and after that “she” only ever talked about visiting me but suprise suprise needed me to help her by sending her money for a flight. After that email i never replied to “her” and neither did “she” and so much for all the love of my life crap i was given. Busted springs to mind. cant agree more, watch out fellas there are people who play on our emotions to scam us, never give anything ut at all.

It also happened to me several times. I even saw some pictures of women on this site that I saw on other sites, only here they have another name and another nationality. So pay attention.
Also pay attention to American female soldiers. A lot of them tried to contact me, but after some chat sessions I felt something was very wrong.

A simple way to check if she’s genuine is a web cam meeting, have you done this? You cannot fake that with ease.

Yes, from now on I always ask for a webcam. Everybody nowadays has a webcam, but be sure they don’t have one, or it is broken, or her friend needs it. And if they have one, they send a recorded tape. In that case, just ask them to wave at you, or to show you a number of fingers. If they are real they will do it. If they are fake, they won’t be able to do so, because they sand a recorded tape. So be warned!

      Run… And run fast…
Even if she is the real deal.. It will cost you at good $25,000 up to get her here. And if you do get her here. She will get Married to you. And in about 6 months she will be all set up in the USA. And it will be good bye to you. And you will be sitting high and dry!
      Run!!!!!

I’ve had them all trying to get money from me before! They’ve asked for bank details before as well, and another con is in asking for money because they need it for their hotel bill! Damn scammers! Oh! And they are known as “scam-baiters” – NEVER give money or bank details to ANYONE on the internet!!

  5. Excellent information ! The scam I have run across most often is the widower with a 11-13 year old child. The man is looking for another true love and mother for his child. He is a contractor currently working outside the country and some minor emergency comes up like his child has been injured and they won’t take his credit card at the hospital. As a card carrying AARP woman I don’t think I want to start all over again raising another family.

These scammers don’t have a good grasp of American colloquial language. I have had 3 contact me on my Facebook page which I use only for my business- My company does BACKGROUND checks for Singles. The don’t understand what background checks are. I have asked them if they read about me on my page and they say of course, duh !!!!
Also, I have observed that most of them use Y****.com I guess they don’t like hotmail.

I am going to repost your article on my Facebook and Twitter pages to spread the word. Thank you.

  6. I am a man and I always try to get a photo of the female if she does not display one and so I give her my email address or mobile number as I wish to make proper contact ASAP. I hope that does not put them off as a result of your advice.
I can spot a scammer easily and do not forget there are many in the USA and, on all sex and dating sites, of females, there are 50% hookers looking for customers.

I get the scam bit all the time. I got (5) this last week.
    The big give ways are.
    Bad English.
At the end of the E mail. They will have. I hope to read from you.
They will say they are over in who knows where. And need money to get back to the USA.
    NEVER send money.
And three things I three rules I have.
    1. If they can’t meet me in person, in a public place with in one week. I move on.
    2. if they can’t send me a simple everyday photo. I move on.
    3. Number 3. Weed out all the B.S fast. It is very simple to weed out the scam’s and players. And Married people.
    Good luck all.

I am also getting this types of emails very regularly, where if it’s mail from african scammer they said to me that they are from UK or USA and for any reason they are now in Nigeria or Ghana, the first question comes in my country, Fuck is Ghana or Nigeria a living heaven on the earth or the most richest countries in the world where women from UK or USA would like to live.
All of them write, “Remember, age, color and distance doesn’t matter, the real matter is love” bull shit, who the fuck asked you for me all matters a lot. and also this “I have something special to tell you” what fuck is it? that you are a drag queen with a ugly dick in your panties?? and they will always write a name like Miss Blessing, Miss something and something.

most of the time they are damn lazy to write answer for your letter, they will send you copy and paste messages, will send you photos which you can’t believe that this type of girl is living there?

Also skype and webcam chat is a really good option and it’s required now for distance relationship, so if you see then, speak with them and know about the person then still it’s better.

The real girl will never start telling you that she is dreaming of you and she is so much in love with you and she is waiting for your letters sooo impatiently. Also the real girl will not start telling you sweetheart, darling or honey in 2nd or 3rd mail.

Also she will not ask you to send money for flight ticket and visa, she will invite you to meet.

There are many points and articles to consider about. better read more and a person can know better. :)
